I delight in the problem solving inherent to working with clay. It is a raw material that can be taken in so many directions, with ample opportunities throughout the making process to layer meaning and visual subtleties. Sometimes it invigorates me, sometimes it makes me physically tired, and sometimes it frustrates me. It is an endless puzzle, digging through my experiences and visual lexicon, trying to communicate a language that speaks to me… and hopefully others too. After my time with the clay is done, it is another delight to see the ways my pieces take on new roles and rituals in other people’s lives.

Originally from the Flathead Valley, Robyn Till has been based in Bozeman for the past 12 years. After finishing her BFA in Ceramics at Montana State University, she completed a Post-Baccalaureate program in Artisanry with UMASS-Dartmouth. Both her utilitarian and sculptural bodies of work are a vehicle to investigate surface design, passage of time, and the intimacy of clay. Her visual lexicon draws from historical textiles and patterns seen in the natural world. She splits her time between making/teaching ceramics and working at the Public Library, whose mission is central to her way of thinking and existing.
